Summer in the Western Region

April 3rd, 2015 by Maryland B&B Association

Maryland’s Western Region contains some of the most picturesque and beautiful scenery in all of Maryland. The Appalachian Mountains and waterways of the Western Region allow for some great hiking, fishing, hunting, and aquatic activities. The Waters Run Guest House & Suite B&B is the place to stay for any guests visiting our Western Region, as Swallow Falls and Deep Creek Lake State Parks are just a short drive away.

On Saturday June 6th, The Mountain State Brewing Company will be hosting “The Bark and Brew Festival” starting at 3pm. Located in McHenry, MD, the festival will feature over 40 craft beer samples, dog events, and live entertainment. Proceeds will benefit the HART for animals foundation and admission for people under 21 and non-drinkers is free. Dog talent and fashion shows will also be showcased, visit the Bark and Brew ticket website to purchase tickets.

The town of Friendsville is celebrating their 250th anniversary this summer and will host special events all summer long. On June 20th Friendsville will conduct the “Art Along the River Flotilla and Rubber Ducky Race”. The Youghiogheny River and Bear Creek will host races of makeshift rafts. The Youghiogheny will host the flotilla, while Bear Creek will have a rubber ducky race for children. Artwork will be featured along the river and a hidden treasure is to be sought for at  the town-wide yard sale. Other events throughout the summer will include music, movie, and popcorn in the park, fireworks displays, and the big celebration of Friendsville’s 250th Birthday!
